Converted Organics All Natural Fertilizers are derived from food waste and other natural ingredients. We do not use manure, poultry litter, sludge or other bio-solids.
Converted Organics uses a microbial digestion technology similar to that found in the pharmaceutical industry. It uses a mechanical aeration device that force feeds the microbes tremendous volumes of oxygen. This dramatically shortens digestion times and self generates sufficient heat to fully pasteurize the product. This means you can use our products around pets and children with confidence knowing it is pathogen-free.
The finished product is a rich blend of nutrients, plant growth regulators, and other substances that enhance the soil’s ability to retain water and the plant’s ability to extract nutrients. It is available as a liquid concentrate or dry bee-bee like prill. There are different formulations and bag sizes for your added convenience.
Multiple Environmental Benefits
Converted Organics uses food waste that would otherwise travel long distances to a landfill where it would decompose over a period of months generating methane and other greenhouse gases.
In addition to reducing the need for future landfills, our products offer gardeners, farmers and recreational groundskeepers an environmentally-friendly alternative to chemical fertilizers that:
-
is safe;
-
reduces chemical run-off into our water resources;
-
improves soil health; and
-
provides great results.
Overuse of chemical fertilizers in modern agriculture contributes to several environmental problems. Chemical fertilizers deplete the overall health of soil, which reduces a plant's ability to absorb nutrients. Over time, more fertilizer is required just to maintain growth rates. As a result, large quantities of chemical fertilizer are not absorbed or retained in the soil and eventually run off into streams and rivers or leach into groundwater and our drinking water.
Using our products reduces or eliminates the need for traditional fertilizers and crop protection products while producing healthier plants and improved yields. In addition to the environmental benefit of reduced run-off, the economics are increasingly compelling. It takes about 33,000 cubic feet of natural gas to manufacture a ton of nitrogen (anhydrous ammonia) so even small changes in gas prices can have a significant effect on fertilizer prices. The price per ton of nitrogen more than doubled from 2000 – 2006 and there is scant hope these prices will revert to levels last seen in the 1990s.
The University of British Columbia conducted both laboratory and field trials using the solid and liquid products with the following conclusions:
- Product is consistent from batch to batch; year to year unlike most organic fertilizers
- Like any good medicine, they "do no harm" to seedlings and young plants - unlike some mineral fertilizers and some other organic fertilizers
- Generate excellent results for turf as well as food crops
- Slow-release of nutrients reduces nitrogen run-off
- Outperforms most inorganic and organic alternatives
- Inhibits growth of all four fungal groups
